THREE for SEVEN was the count on Thursday with top choices at Del Mar, resulting in a 100% profit on top picks bet to win on the day. We also got it right with two of three recommended exactas and a cold daily double with back-to-back winners in the third and fourth races. With Lang Field and Cheroot both horses that should want the lead from the start at any cost, both capable of setting a very hot pace all by themselves, Stoneside leads a trio that can run past the tiring leaders late, just like he did one before last in a grade 3 turf sprint stakes, not disgraced one bit off that win when 3rd in a grade 3 stakes on dirt. Stoneside ran 2nd in a group 1 stakes in France in his last race before coming to the states, and with his recent form top rate, racing in a restricted stakes for the 1st time, he should run back to his 4/19 effort and winning result. Awesome Gem should really appreciate the hot pace, racing in a non-graded stakes for the 1st time in seven races, having won his last non-graded race. He finished 2nd on the DM turf the only time he ran over it and he won the G2 San Fernando in January, 2007 with Baze up, who rides him today, beating eventual Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Midnight Lute in the process. Of course, he ran big in the Breeders' Cup Classic himself when 3rd behind Curlin and Hard Spun and as such may rebound to winning form in this restricted stakes. Becrux won this stakes race last year, off a 4th place finish in the American Handicap, this year finishing 5th in that same race and dropping from that grade 2 company to this restricted level once again, Flores up for last year's win and riding him again, with his only knock being that he didn't do much in his 2008 debut or his last start of 2007.

HOLLY JET - Jock jumped on this colt's back for the first try on Jul 4th. Should 'know' the horse even better today. Trainer Pish moves this horse to a lower level to face much lower class horses. Look for a solid performance racing against these lower level horses.

FREE HIT - Was in a $4,000 Claiming race at Indiana Downs last time out. That clash had a class rating of 79 and he is moving down in this race. A certain contender. Gonzalez and Schling partnered with one another are a handicapper's friend. This gelding's last speed fig notched on May 30th is tops in last race speed figures.
Vulnerable Contenders: #6 T AND T TIME (ML=5/2), #1 DIAMOND ADVANTAGE (ML=7/2), #4 HARD DECISION (ML=4/1),
T AND T TIME - This chalk horse ran on June 19th and hasn't had a drill since. He had to show me more against that weaker bunch in the last race on June 19th to get my support today. DIAMOND ADVANTAGE - 7/2 is just not enough of a value to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back outings. Unlikely that the speed rating he recorded on July 19th will be good enough in this contest. HARD DECISION - This animal likes to land in the top three, but doesn't usually finish first. Leave out of the top spot.
