As an aid to make the art of handicapping less intimidating and a day at the races more enjoyable, the New York Racing Association
will include a "fan friendly" page in the daily program it sells for the entire 36-day Saratoga Race Course meeting, which opens
Wednesday (July 28) and runs through Labor Day (Sept. 6).
The fan friendly page is produced and designed by Equibase Company, the Thoroughbred industry's official database for racing
information. It will include a variety of easy-to-use statistics, bar graphs and pie charts geared toward new and casual racing fans.
"We believe that the fan friendly page enhances our program because it cuts through the clutter and makes the process of trying to pick
a winner less intimidating," explained Bill Nader, NYRA's Director of Broadcast Communications and Promotions. "At Saratoga, we
reach a demographic that will appreciate the fan friendly information. The page will make it easier for newcomers and casual fans to
understand our sport."
Nader also pointed out that some features of the fan friendly page, like win percentages for trainers and jockeys, "will also be useful and
beneficial for our core fans so the page will have something for everyone."
Fan friendly racing pages were introduced by Equibase Company in February and have been adopted by many racetracks around the
country since then.
"We're pleased that racetracks have embraced our efforts to develop fan friendly racing pages for fans who are new to our sport and
we're delighted that fans at one of the premier race meets in the country will get to use them," said Hank Zeitlin, the Executive Vice
President of Marketing and Sales for Equibase Company.
