Ann McGovern, vice president of operations for Sam Houston Race Park, has been appointed by the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America (TRA) to the Equibase Company LLC Management Committee, it was announced today by Equibase Chairman Alan Marzelli.

McGovern replaces Ray Tromba, who became a member of the committee in August 2002. Other members of the committee are Craig Fravel, Jim McAlpine, Bill Nader, Karl Schmitt and Mike Weiss representing the TRA; Sherwood Chillingworth, C. Steven Duncker, Dan Fick, Alan Marzelli, Nick Nicholson and Ogden Mills Phipps representing The Jockey Club.

“We thank Ray for his involvement with various Equibase initiatives over the past three-and-a-half years,” Marzelli said. “We look forward to Ann’s bringing her extensive industry experience, dedication and knowledge of Equibase to the management committee.”

A graduate of the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona, McGovern has been involved with the racing industry for 22 years, and she has been vice president at Sam Houston since 1994. Her racing career began at Louisiana Downs, where she was the assistant director of public relations and marketing. She then moved to Remington Park, where she was director of operations.

McGovern is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association racing committee and an alternate director for the TRA. In addition, she was instrumental in bringing the $1 million MBNA American Challenge Championships to Sam Houston Race Park in 2004.
